DJI Avata Explorer Combo Rating

These are the results of our personal tests & challenges given to the drone with the consideration to its camera, flight performance, structure, design, and price range. DJI Avata EXPL got an impressive overall rating of 92.5%.

Structure and Design

DJI Avata Explorer Combo is primarily made with a combination of plastic and carbon fiber. These materials ensure the drone’s durable structure while keeping it lightweight.

This drone weighs 410 grams with dimensions of 7″L x 7″ W x 3″H inches. It also has a black color with a futuristic, cool-looking design that makes it one of a kind.

Drones above the 250g weight limit implemented by the Federal Aviation Authority must be registered. Learn more about the drone weight regulation implemented by the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA).

With the built-in propeller guard, it can handle minor contact to stay in the air and keep flying.

Furthermore, it’s compact enough to fit in the palm of your hand, making it incredibly agile. This agility is perfect for dodging obstacles and navigating tight spaces with ease.

If you own another DJI remote controller, it’s good to know that it is compatible with FPV Remote Controller 2, Goggles V2, FPV Goggles V2, Goggles Integra, RC Motion 2 Controller, and DJI Motion Controller.

Camera and Video Quality

DJI Avata’s camera has an upgraded system so you don’t need to put any extra attachments. It is built with a 1/1.7-inch sensor, 155° FOV, and flagship stabilization.

However, some camera features are only available with specific aspect ratios and modes. For example, the 155° FOV is only available when the aspect ratio is 4:3 and the video recording specification is 2.7K at 50/60fps.

Another example is Horizon Steady, which is only available in Normal Mode FOV with the aspect ratio of 16:9 and the video recording specification is 4K@50/60fps, 2.7K@50/60fps, or 1080p@50/60fps.

By the way, this camera has a 4k video capture resolution coupled with a 12MP still resolution. It supports JPED image format and can produce up to 4000 x 3000 resolution.

These camera options might be overwhelming to some but you don’t need to worry because the more you practice, the more it becomes better!

FPV Goggles and Controller

This purchase always comes with DJI Goggles Integra and DJI RC Motion 2. The specialized goggles have a built-in GPS module, meaning you don’t need to connect a mobile device when you fly it.

They also receive a reliable transmission with DJI 03 and system over auto-switching dual-band 2.4/5.8 GHz signals. You can use these for up to 2 hours before charging it back.

Additionally, it supports DJI Virtual Flight Simulator so you can practice and become more familiar with FPV drone flying.

Let’s talk about the DJI RC Motion 2, a handheld remote controller that features intuitive motion-sensing controls. This allows the pilot to control the drone simply by moving the controller.

Other key features include ergonomic design, making the controller comfortable to hold for long periods; an integrated joystick for more precise control; and responsive feedback with no delay in commands.

Important Reminder: Buying and using non-Integra goggles will always tether you to a phone requiring internet access before you can fly the drone.

The best move here is to simply buy the DJI Avata Explorer Combo with Integra goggles and instantly pair it with the DJI Fly App (download directly from the DJI website).

This is because DJI Integra goggles have built-in GPS and don’t require an internet connection to operate and the DJI Fly app will help you with the flying details.

Flight Performance

The DJI Avata Explorer Combo has one DJI FPV Intelligent flight battery that provides up to 18 minutes of flight time (this will vary depending on how many tasks you command on the drone).

It has a DJI 03 transmission, which provides sharp and responsive HD live feed within 10 km. It can also withstand up to Level 5 winds (24mph).

This drone has 3-speed modes you can choose from to fit your preference: N Mode (normal), S Mode (sport), and M Mode (manual).

Due to this, it can reach speeds of 17.9 mph to 60.4 mph. When you stumble with some challenges while flying, it has Emergency Brake and Return to Home features you can rely on.

Furthermore, it can handle minor bumps and stay in the air to keep flying. It must also maintain a 0.25m minimum distance from the ground.

Usage of this Drone

This drone has an impressive camera quality, incredibly unique structure and design, intuitive controls and decent flight performance.

For that reason, you can use this drone for various recreational activities such as exploration and sightseeing, hobby flying, infrastructure inspection, stunts, and more.

This drone is great for FPV beginners, photographers, videographers, hobbyists, and stunt enthusiasts who want to venture into this immersive section of the drone world.
